Description:  The Monett R-1 School District is accepting applications for an Alternative Classroom Teacher (K-3) for the 2024/2025 school year. JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide core content instruction to at risk students (K-3) in small group sessions. Define and assess behavior; understand principles of reinforcement; teach new behavior; implement strategies for weakening behavior; and identify antecedents. Facilitate team meetings with the identified student’s teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a functional behavioral assessment. Facilitate team meetings that: develop behavior intervention plans; address classroom organization, design and implement effective instruction, provide social skills instruction Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which “at risk” students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice. Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress. Create fair and equitable assessments to assess higher-order thinking and problem solving as well as individual skills, knowledge, and understanding. Model good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior. Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors. Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive. Engage parents in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child. Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill Knowledge of: Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation; Methodologies, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) used to address the needs of children with behavioral challenges, including autism; Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies, ability to apply a gradually progressive system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively deescalate potentially dangerous situations. Strategies for the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention plans and current accepted best practices included in the full continuum of placement options for students with autism and other behavioral challenges; Applicable directives, standards, procedures, policies, rules, regulations, codes, laws and guidelines governing special education, particularly those relating to positive behavior interventions; Accepted analysis and assessment procedures, including functional analysis, ecological analysis of settings, and systematic observation; Data tracking and collection, record management and reporting methods; Processes involved with Individualized Education Program (IEP) for special education students
