BUILDING AND TRADES JOB DESCRIPTION: The person in this position is assigned teaching and supervision duties to prepare students to apply technical skills in various sectors of the Construction Industry. The individual will function as both a classroom teacher and site facilitator. The program includes instruction in job planning, material layout, electrical, masonry, concrete finishing, plumbing framing, site layout, exterior finish, and roof applications. The Industrial Maintenance description includes instruction in electrical safety, theory, testing, testing equipment, current codes, conduit, fasteners, blueprint reading, oxyfuel, cutting, industrial and commercial wiring, motor theory, circuits, fuses, relays, plastic, copper piping, and shielded metal arc welding. This position would also require the delivery of information related to current manufacturing materials, technologies and equipment required to be productive in the construction industry. The program is designed and delivered as a coherent sequence of experiences using technical instruction, experiential learning, supervised occupational experience, leadership and personal development through the career and technical student organization (Skills USA). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following. Other duties may be assigned: Instructs assigned classes in the location and at the time designated Uses an integrated approach to teaching and learning to develop interpersonal relations, career development skills and technical knowledge associated with functions essential for employees in Building Trades related occupations Implement a total Career and Technical Education Program including classroom instruction, work-based learning and personal/leadership development through a Career and Technical Education student organization Provide leadership and personal development experiences and opportunities through involvement in career and technical student organization Provides leadership and personal development experiences and opportunities through involvement in career and technical student organizations (CTSO) Deliver and assess the approved Building Trades core curriculum, in addition to the technical skills, students will also develop advanced critical thinking, applied academics, career development, life management, business economic and leadership skills Maintain appropriate student files Provide a clean safe working environment for all students Sets and maintains a high level of classroom standards and student behavior in addition to upholding the District Wide discipline policies Guide the learning process through the use of clear established objectives, toward the achievement of District curriculum goals Assess student accomplishments/progress on a regular basis adhering to the approved District grading policies as well as provide progress reports as required Strive to implement through instruction and example, the District’s Mission and Vision Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by use of professional development and externship activities Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required Performs other duties as assigned or required Be able to provide quarterly progress status of current projects to principal, superintendent, and Board of Education. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures Knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and methods Knowledge of enhanced classroom instruction and delivery of curriculum Ability to provide advanced critical thinking, employability, applied academic, life management, and leadership skills for the Building Trades occupations Ability to provide instructional leadership Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications Demonstrated ability to communicate in oral and written form Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the School District MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Hold an appropriate Career & Technical Education teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Preferred qualifications: all minimum qualifications 3 years teaching experience in building trades related fields 3 years industry experience in building trades related fields OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Missouri driver’s license Must be able to obtain and maintain a school bus driving endorsement Must be CPR and First Aid certified May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 50 pounds May be required to work outside normal working hours May be required to travel to perform work functions
