| Description: | The Union R-XI School District is a progressive school district in the heart of Franklin County. As the county seat, Union is home to almost 3,100 PreK-12 students with over 400 employees. Union High School has a student population around 920 in grades 9-12, in addition to around 80 total employees. There is a rich tradition of empowering students through leadership and service and that is illustrated through the many extra-curricular activities offered at UHS. Additionally, UHS has done significant work on the assessment and grading front and uses a standards-based learning model in all classes. Furthermore, UHS is a 1:1 learning environment with Chromebooks for all students and currently leverages Google Apps for Education to enhance student learning. Whether it is through the music department, agriculture department, PLTW/robotics/STEM department, or through the many athletics programs, students at UHS get a wide-array of experiences and opportunities. These academic and life experiences put our graduates in a position to be successful no matter what path they choose in life. UHS has an outstanding staff who are committed to ensuring each students’ needs are met, which aligns perfectly with our district mission of: providing a diverse education through leading, learning, and serving. Per Board policy GCBA, a maximum of 21 years of experience (with proper certification) may be transferred from another elementary or secondary accredited system. The highest step a teacher may enter the district at is step 22 of the salary schedule.
