| Description: | The Union R-XI School District is a progressive school district in the heart of Franklin County. As the county seat, Union is home to almost 3,100 PreK-12 students with over 400 employees. The work we are doing in our district has been recognized both across the United States as well as internationally. We have three elementary schools: Beaufort Elementary is a K-6 (420 student population), Central Elementary is a K-3 (710 student population) & Clark-Vitt Elementary is a 4-6 (540 student population). All three of our elementary schools are Leader in Me schools and we have a rich tradition of empowering our students through leadership and service. Our elementary schools have the added benefit of having access to both a math and literacy coach to assist with best meeting our students’ academic needs. We’ve also made significant steps toward grading and assessment reform in our district as grades K-3 are using a standards based model to drive our learning and grading processes. Additionally, our upper elementary classrooms (grades 3-6) are 1:1 Chromebook learning environments using Google Apps for Education. Lastly, all three of our elementary schools are implementing Project Lead the Way, which makes Union one of the few districts in the state to offer this opportunity at the elementary level. Our outstanding staff are committed to ensuring our students’ needs are met, which aligns perfectly with our district mission of: providing a diverse education through leading, learning, and serving. Per Board policy GCBA, a maximum of 21 years of experience (with proper certification) may be transferred from another elementary or secondary accredited system. The highest step a teacher may enter the district at is step 22 of the salary schedule.
