Job Vacancy Description:  Middle School Assistant Principal
Description:  Assistant Princpial Open until filled. The candidate shall have obtained a Missouri State Department Secondary School Principal's Certificate. Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a school of the appropriate level. Possess a master's degree in school administration from an accredited institution of higher learning. Pass the required background screening check. Present such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriately acceptable. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school. Help establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school. Assume responsibility for discipline with the assistance of the principal. Assist the building principal in monitoring student attendance and investigate follow-up actions as needed. Assume responsibility for the coordination of junior high athletics with the help of the principal. Assume responsibility for student lockers, IS assignments, building security, safety drills, building usage, and athletic publicity as directed by the building principal. Assume responsibility for coordination of activities and keeping the master calendar with the help of the counselors and the principal. Have the power to suspend pupils whose conduct and character are such as to injure the reputation or the efficiency of the school. Any suspension shall be immediately reported in writing to the Principal. Out-of-school suspensions of more than three days should be discussed with the principal unless he/she is unavailable at the time. The Superintendent will be notified as directed by the principal. The parent shall be notified by telephone, if possible, and a letter shall be sent immediately. Follow-up parent conference should be held upon the student's return to classes from an out-of-school suspension or a second incident of in-school suspension. Assume the responsibility for holding follow-up parent conferences to resolve discipline, attendance or other related school problems. Have the authority to issue or refuse passes to those students wishing to leave the building while school is in session and excuse pre-arranged absences. Develop rules and regulations necessary for the successful operation of the school with the help of the principal, teachers, counselors, and students. The rules and regulations shall be placed in the Middle School Student Handbook. Advise, assist and support teachers in difficult cases of discipline with the help of the principal. Assist teachers and students with school-sponsored activities, clubs, organizations, etc. Assist in the in-service orientation and training of new staff members. Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum as directed by the principal. Assist in the evaluation of staff members as directed by the principal. Be responsible for the operation of the school program during the absence of the principal. Assist in the supervision of co-curricular activities as designated by the principal. Assist the principal and the superintendent in establishing and maintaining a good relationship with the community. Assist with the daily supervision of the plant and facilities, transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and any other support services as directed by the building principal. Perform other such tasks and assumes other such responsibilities as the principal may assign.
