Description:  Missouri Military Academy is seeking a full-time Band Director for the fall of the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate is a licensed teacher with a degree in Music or a related field and previous teaching experience in the subject area; graduate degree preferred. Marching band experience required. Persons with expertise in multiple academic areas and/or coaching experience are highly desirable. A commitment to the academic and social/emotional growth of students is essential. Faculty members serve in a wide capacity across the campus including: club sponsorship, participating in student life activities, and as academic advisors. Being able to work collaboratively with fellow faculty members and residential staff is critical for this position. Candidates should be realistic and excited about the challenges and rewards of teaching and working in a boarding school environment. Missouri Military Academy offers a dynamic educational experience for boys in grades 7-12 in a military boarding school environment. The Academy is known for its 360 Degree Education, which provides a structured, well-rounded, holistic education that is centered upon the pillars of academic excellence, character development, personal motivation, physical health and the enhancement of leadership skills. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirement and show written evidence of preparation as required. 2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. 3. Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities. 4. Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula as needed for students. 5. Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to MMA requirements. 6. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. 7. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. 8. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. 9. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities. 10. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school. 11. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. 12. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Cadet Handbook and Academic Procedures Manual. 13. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, teachers, and dean. 14. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 15. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. 16. Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (classroom, campus, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.). 17. Attends extra-curricular activities (e.g. sports activities, student centered activities, concerts, music programs, district programs, etc.) for the purpose of supporting students and staff in school functions and ensuring continued rapport with students and staff. Specific duties and tasks: 1. Teaches a minimum of three block classes 2. Serve as a class sponsor 3. Serve as a class advisor 4. Provide furlough duty – minimum two per academic year 5. Provide residential weekend/evening activity support – minimum two per academic year 6. Serve one buddy pack service per academic year 7. Provide as intramural/varsity athletic supervisor or assistance each season 8. Performs other duties as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Essential qualifications, skills and experience: 1. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred 2. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) 3. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress 4. Must be able to interpret and enforce policy & procedures 5. Be able to manage multiple priorities. 6. Computer literacy to include using the Office Suite. 7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
