Description:  Mexico Public Schools is now accepting applications for an English Teaching position for grades 9-12 for the 2024-2025 school year. TITLE: Teacher - English CATEGORY: Instructional QUALIFICATIONS: Shall meet all state certification requirements in subject area Bachelor of Science with major in English education Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Building Principal DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: General Purpose: To create a flexible program that provides students the language skills, written and spoken, they will need for a successful future. To work effectively with coworkers to assure a successful school program. To establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. Main Job Task and Responsibilities: Instructs pupils in basic English subject matter specified in state guidelines and course of study of the school district. Adapts English material and methods to make them relevant and challenge at-risk pupils. Seeks, acquires and applies new effective techniques and teaching methodologies. Selects and requisitions instructional materials appropriate to the adopted curriculum, and interest and maturity level of pupils; maintains required inventory records. Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group and remedial instruction to meet the needs of at-risk pupils. Establishes and maintains high expectations for self and pupils. Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas. Evaluates each pupil's progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Creates an environment conducive to effective learning. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other vocational staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve learning problems related to their vocational choice. Communicates with parents and encourages and promotes parental cooperation and involvement. Works cooperatively with clerical personnel, aides and other support staff. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities as specified in professional development plan. Assists the administration whenever possible with concerns directly related to his/her classroom responsibilities or other related concerns. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month Contract with salary, benefits work days to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel. Applications will be screened as they are submitted.
