Description:  Knob Noster Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2022-2023 school year. The successful candidate will demonstrate diverse professional knowledge, a vision of excellence, a student-centered focus, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. CLASSIFICATION: Licensed by Division of Professional Registration and certified by the Commission for the Deaf QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Associates Degree with License by Division of Professional Registration and certified by the Commission for the Deaf 2. Ability to use American Sign Language and Conceptually Accurate Signed English 3. Ability to provide oral interpreting 4. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. 5. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require approval of HR 6. Preferred to have or to be working towards Bachelor’s Degree 7. Preferred to have the ability to implement other visual systems (I.E Cued Speech, Visual Phonics, etc.) REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Building Principals PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides interpreting for pupils who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) in all areas of the educational environment 2. Provides tutoring and/or note taking services for DHH Students 3. Follows the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment guidelines of professional conduct for Educational Interpreters 4. Participates as a member of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team at meetings and conferences. Provides insight and recommendations regarding communication in the development and review of progress on the IEP, including evaluations of student use of an interpreter. 5. Interprets IEP meetings when not participating as a team member 6. Provides interpreting for conferences, telephone calls, assemblies, concerts, ceremonies, field trips or parent meetings, when necessary. May provide interpreting for extra-curricular sports/activities beyond contract hours. 7. Prepares for daily lessons/school-related activities and preview media for interpreting 8. Carries out classroom management or individual behavior plan as designed by classroom teacher and/or IEP team ANCILLARY JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides staff development opportunities including conducting non-credit sign classes, as requested 2. May interpret for parents or other adults at school functions and other activities related to the school district’s services and programs 3. Provides sign language lessons for students 4. Provides other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of DHH Culture and its role with the education of deaf students 2. Knowledge of special education practices 3. Strong command of ASL and English language 4. Tutoring Skills 5. Ability to collaborate with staff 6. Willingness to troubleshoot non-working hearing aids and cochlear implants TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 day teacher contract. Teacher salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
