Description:  Position: Teacher Aide/Bus Attendant, Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) Reports to: Building Administrator Department: Elementary and Secondary Education Classification: School Term, Support Office: Special Education Location: MSSD Section: Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled Pay Range: SS9/SS3 Job Group: 501 Primary duty is assisting the classroom teacher in carrying out the individual education programs for students with disabilities and assisting the bus driver in loading and unloading students and supporting students with disabilities on the bus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations. Implement student instructional program as directed by teacher. Follow behavior support plans of individual students. Accommodate for each student’s individual communication needs. Supervise students during off campus instruction. Follow daily schedule of work activities. Perform the daily self-care needs of students (e.g., diapering, feeding, hand washing, tooth brushing etc.) Follow student specific special health care procedures as trained by the school nurse. Assist with arrival/dismissal transfer of students to/from bus and classroom. Provide a safe school environment for students. Lift and move 50 pounds to include assisting in changing positions of students. Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines. Participate in 15 hours of in-service first year of employment and 10 hours each year thereafter. Maintain confidentiality of parent, student and staff personally identifiable information. Assist students getting on and off the bus. Supervise students on the bus. Maintain CPR certification at the level determined by the American Heart Association or Red Cross as Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers. Follow student specific special health care procedures as trained by the school nurse. Follow behavior support plans of individual students. Perform the daily self-care needs of students as required (e.g., diapering, etc.) Assist in emergency bus evacuations. Lift and move 75 pounds. Demonstrate effective safety skills with students, equipment, environment, etc. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain CPR certification at the level determined by the American Heart Association or Red Cross as Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers. Infrequent travel for training and staff meetings. Help keep bus clean and supplied. Participate in staff development as necessary to keep bus attendant skills updated and current. Accurately completes all reports on or before established deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED: High School diploma or G.E.D. Experience working with individuals with severe disabilities is preferred. (Other qualifications and experience which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
