Description:  Knob Noster Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Parents as Teachers Educator for the 2021-2022 school year. The successful candidate will demonstrate diverse professional knowledge, a vision of excellence, a student-centered focus, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Parents as Teacher Educator CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certification QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with young children and/or parents or 60 college hours in relevant field Available to attend Foundational and Model Implementation Training prior to working as a PAT Available to work outside the regular school day Holds and maintains a valid driver’s license and evidence of insurance Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services/PAT Supervisor PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Provide strategies and support as a liaison between home and school (prenatal to kindergarten age) Instruct parents in parenting, child development and educational support Provides information on educational and related support services available for eligible students and families Assessing and making referrals to other agencies REQUIRED PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides developmentally appropriate information, observations and support to parents in their role as their child’s first teacher Maintains an accurate log of parent contact, activities and assessments that support child development in our computerized system Demonstrates knowledge of child development, skill acquisition, parenting and issues related to typical and atypical growth Shares relevant information, resources and activities on development, language, motor, and social skills with parents/care givers in the home and at community connection events Models appropriate verbal interactions, communication techniques and self-regulating behaviors Screens and monitors child progress in cognition, language, motor and affective development, and provides referrals as necessary to community resources Plans for and implements home based programming to strengthen parent effectiveness Maintains files and records for documentation Establishes good rapport with families, community resources, team members and district personnel, demonstrating active listening, encouragement, guidance and feedback Actively recruits high risk families Ability to travel to various locations; meeting families in their homes and at community events Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of the position Participates in district professional development, as requested Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting Adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies Adheres to good safety practices All other duties as required or assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 176 total contract days. Classified salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. This job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
