Description:  Knob Noster Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to fill an immediate vacancy as School Nurse (RN). Head Nurse CERTIFICATION: Currently certified in the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a school setting preferred, but not required Bachelor of Science in Nursing CPR certified Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Building Level Principals PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Oversees the district's health services department, assigned personnel, and related activities Responsible for the training and compliance of department personnel Collaborates with community partners, outside agencies and district departments, related to student health services, to ensure effective and quality health care delivery and access to resources Plans and coordinates clinical aspects of the district health services program Researches various health and legal issues pertinent to the success of the health services program Serves as a building nurse REQUIRED PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates and participates in the establishment, review and implementation of school health policies and procedures Ensures policies and procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice Assesses, plans and evaluates the health services component of the coordinated school health programs Develops and coordinates quality improvement activities for the school health services component of the school health program Provides screening and referral for health conditions as mandated by the Department of Health and Senior Services for the State of Missouri Promotes a healthy school environment Provides for the physical and emotional safety of the school community Monitors immunizations, assures appropriate exclusion from and re-entry into school Reports communicable diseases as required by the State of Missouri Implements precautions for blood borne pathogens and other infectious disease Assesses the physical environment of school and takes actions to improve health and safety Promotes and educates students to improve their health status, make healthy choices and encourage self-care; physically and mentally Provides programs to staff, families and the community on health topics, first aid, emergency care and CPR training Serves as liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers Participates as a team member in developing and evaluating student needs through an Individual Education Plan, 504 and/or Health Care Plan Communicates with family Communicates with community health providers and community health care agencies while ensuring appropriate confidentiality Develops data collection tools required for program data, compiles accurate data and uses findings for planning, implementing and evaluating school health program Provides supervision to RNs, CNAs and health room aides by telephone or in person. Assesses and evaluates the health and developmental status of students through appropriate screening techniques Monitors initial screening programs in schools served and provides secondary screening prior to referral Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students identified by the screening process as needing medical or other care Compiles information including observations, appropriate medical records and screening results Maintains health records and uses the information accumulated to initiate preventive, remedial or rehabilitative action Records screening data using appropriate computer program Maintains cumulative health records and performs clerical duties as school policy allows access to records on appropriate computer program. Plans and supervises daily care of students with disabilities, as needed Provides care management for children with identified health needs Assumes responsibility for maintenance of the health room Monitors injury reports to identify potential hazards and encourage their elimination Administer first aid, care and comfort of ill or injured students as stipulated in written health policies and procedures, if appropriately trained Takes and records accurate temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and other symptoms presented by the student Assists in identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect and reports to the appropriate person as outlined in school board policy Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position Displays appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students and parents Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, school staff, families, and the community Participates in district professional development, as requested Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills Adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies Adheres to good safety practices All other duties as required or assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 total contract days. Classified salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. This job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
