Description:  Knob Noster Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing for the 2021-2022 school year. The successful candidate will demonstrate diverse professional knowledge, a vision of excellence, a student-centered focus, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing CLASSIFICATION: Licensed by Division of Professional Registration and certified by the Commission for the Deaf QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students mandatory. Background in oral education/Listening & Spoken Language preferred Early intervention credentials and experience a plus Completion of an approved teacher training program in education of the deaf Valid Missouri credential authorizing teaching of the deaf REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services and Building Principals PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Teaches hearing, deaf, and hard-of-hearing pupils Consults with parent, other professionals, agencies, and support staff regarding student educational needs In-services parents, teachers, students, and aides on various issues regarding working with children who have a hearing loss Employs amplification devices Meets with parents, teachers, other professionals, and students to provide information and support regarding hearing loss Plans instruction as needed per Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Records student progress and other data as required per IEP’s and school monitoring procedures Develop appropriate IEP goals based on data and the educational needs of the child REQUIRED PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop appropriate Individual Education Plans for deaf and hard-of-hearing students Design and implement instructional lessons appropriate to the child’s needs Evaluate student progress and adjust instruction appropriately Develop the communication and self-advocacy skills of individual deaf and hard-of-hearing students Use appropriate amplification devices effectively with deaf and hard-of-hearing children Adjust the type of communication used in the classroom to meet the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing children Work cooperatively and in a positive manner with parents, other staff and students Use Cued Speech to ensure communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing as well as hearing students, or commitment to learn and become proficient in Cued Speech Educate general education staff in the unique needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the mainstream setting Provide appropriate supervision to ensure student safety TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 day teacher contract. Teacher salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
