Description:  State Fair Community College is an accessible, learning-centered institution, enriching its students and community by providing skills, knowledge and perspectives essential for a changing world. Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills: State Fair Career and Technology Center (CTC) offers career and technology education opportunities for area high school juniors and seniors. The CTC also provides alternative education opportunities for students to obtain a high school diploma through the Missouri Options program. This part time instructor position will assist students in preparation and administration of the Missouri Options program. The Missouri Option Program permits full-time, public school enrolled students who are at least 17 years of age and at risk of dropping out or not graduating with their cohort group, the opportunity to earn a standard high school diploma. For more information regarding Missouri Options please visit: https://dese.mo.gov/quality-schools/missouri-option-program The instructor for this position will be a part time faculty member and they will be in charge of overseeing up to 12 students daily, throughout the school year. The instructor for this position will be assigned to one of two, 3-hour time slots. The AM session is from 7:30 – 10:30 am. The PM session is from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. This instructor will work with administration to screen potential students, develop a plan of study, prepare them for the HiSET exam, and administer the assurances of the Missouri Options program. This part time position meets the 550-hour requirements for retired Missouri educators. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Highly motivated individual with a Missouri teaching certificate and experience in working in alternative education settings. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1.Works with the CTC administration, counselor and sending school districts to administer the Missouri Options program. 2.Screens potential student applicants to determine eligibility for Missouri Options. 3.Develops and maintains curriculum, plans of study, and related instructional activities. 4.Provides individualized instruction to students enrolled in the Missouri Options program. 5.Enroll students in the Missouri Options program and registers students for the HiSET exam. 6.Attains/maintains relevant program accreditation/certification. 7.Assists in the management of budget expenses to support instructional activities. 8.Organizes classroom and /or laboratory in a manner which is conducive to learning. 9.Maintains positive classroom management by setting and communicating high, consistent expectations for learning and achievement. 10.Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request by immediate supervisor. 11.Employs a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. 12.Recognizes the teacher's responsibility for monitoring student progress and adjusting instruction accordingly; evaluates students' accomplishments and progress in a timely and consistent manner. 13.Prepares and grades classroom and lab assignments and examinations, and informs students of their academic progress and competency attainment. 14.Maintains academic and attendance records. 15.Assists students in obtaining related employment upon successful completion of the program. 16.Attends meetings; participates in faculty, grade level and subject area committees and sponsorship of activities. 17.Participates in after-school events such as Parent/Teacher conferences, advisory dinners, open house, business and community events, and SkillsUSA activities. 18.Conducts an annual program self-evaluation and submits results to director. 19.Evaluates overall program effectiveness and makes necessary program adjustments based upon evaluation results. 20.Strives to improve professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities. 21.Strives to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan. 22.Displays appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for student 23.Performs basic computer functions; uses CTC software for recording grades and finding student information. 24.Utilizes smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the CTC. 25.Abides by Missouri statutes, and State Fair Community College and CTC administrations' policies and regulations. 26.Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the State Fair Community College and the CTC. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. 9. Attends out of town meetings and training sessions as requested. 10. Maintains strict confidentiality. 11. Meets requirements to maintain Career Education certification. 12. Supports district/school decisions in a positive manner with the public and staff. 13. Minimum qualifications & Requirements Knowledge of: This program is intended to be an alternative education method of obtaining a high school diploma. The instructor should be competent in providing instruction in math, social studies, science, reading, and writing subject areas. Ability to: Effectively develop and maintain an effective classroom that prepares students to pass the HiSET exam to meet the requirements of the Missouri Options program. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in an area appropriate for the subject area being taught. Missouri Teaching Certificate or AEL certificate. Experience: Preferred experience in one of the following areas: High School Teacher Alternative Education Teacher Special Education Teacher PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS – An individual who holds this position must have the ability to transmit information, in both verbal and written English, in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. They must have the physical ability to sit, stoop and bend. They will be required to be on their feet for most of the instructional period to best monitor student work and behaviors in open and enclosed work areas. The individual is required to lift 55 pounds from the floor to standard working height and return on a regular basis. CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment setting.
