Examples of Duties: State Fair Career and Technology Center (CTC) offers career education opportunities for area high school juniors and seniors. The goal of this position is to provide quality education and training, relevant to current industry standards, and to ensure students' success in the criminal justice field. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Highly motivated professional with law enforcement experience who is willing to develop a new criminal justice program and become the lead instructor. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1.Works with the program's advisory committee to maintain current industry standards; 2.Incorporates current practices from business, industry and education to support instruction. 3.Develops and maintains industry relevant curriculum, syllabi and related instructional activities. 4.Attains/maintains relevant program accreditation/certification. 5.Assists in the management of budget expenses to support instructional activities. 6.Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on shop/lab equipment as needed. 7.Organizes classroom and /or laboratory in a manner which is conducive to learning. 8.Maintains positive classroom management by setting and communicating high, consistent expectations for learning and achievement. 9.Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request by immediate supervisor. 10.Employs a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. 11.Recognizes the teacher's responsibility for monitoring student progress and adjusting instruction accordingly; evaluates students' accomplishments and progress in a timely and consistent manner. 12.Prepares and grades classroom and lab assignments and examinations, and informs students of their academic progress and competency attainment. 13.Maintains academic and attendance records. 14.Develops relationships with business and industry to remain current and secure internship opportunities for students. 15.Oversees on-the-job activities of students participating in the Internship Program. 16.Assists students in obtaining related employment upon successful completion of the program. 17.Attends meetings; participates in faculty, grade level and subject area committees and sponsorship of activities. 18.Participates in after-school events such as Parent/Teacher conferences, advisory dinners, open house, business and community events, and SkillsUSA activities. 19.Conducts an annual program self-evaluation and submits results to director. 20.Evaluates overall program effectiveness and makes necessary program adjustments based upon evaluation results. 21.Promotes Career and Technical Student Organization memberships and participation. 22.Strives to improve professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities. 23.Strives to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan. 24.Displays appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for student 25.Performs basic computer functions; uses CTC software for recording grades and finding student information. 26.Utilizes smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the CTC. 27.Abides by Missouri statutes, and State Fair Community College and CTC administrations' policies and regulations. 28.Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the State Fair Community College and the CTC. The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.Exhibits dependability and punctuality in assigned duties; has consistent and regular attendance. 2.Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 3.Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy,and administrative regulation. 4.Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 5.Reads, analyzes and interprets professional journals, state data, state standards,Board policy, administrative procedures and forms, and governmental regulations and guidance. 6.Develops and follows a plan of self-improvement which promotes both personal and organizational goals. 7.Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress,and manner for the work setting. 8.Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. 9.Attends out of town meetings and training sessions as requested. 10. Maintains strict confidentiality. 11. Meets requirements to maintain Career Education certification. 12. Supports district/school decisions in a positive manner with the public and staff. 13. Performs all other duties as required or assigned. Minimum qualifications & Requirements Knowledge of: This program is intended to be a general introduction to the American criminal justice system with emphasis on law enforcement. Students will investigate US constitutional law and the Missouri criminal code as well as many aspects of law enforcement such as professional ethics, evidence procedure, crime scene and accident investigation, and types of law enforcement equipment used in industry today. There will be a strong connection to industry and students should be prepared for dealing with real world scenarios in a mature and professional manner. Ability to: Effectively develop and maintain an effective classroom that prepares students for entry level positions and post-secondary educational opportunities in the criminal justice field. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in an area appropriate for the subject area being taught and four thousand (4000) hours of DESE-approved, related occupational experience obtained within the most recent ten (10) years; or Verification of an associate's degree in an area appropriate for the subject area being taught and 5000 hours related occupational experience within the most recent 10 years; or Verification of at least 6000 hours related occupational experience within the most recent 10 years. Must be willing to obtain career education certification through DESE. Experience: Preferred experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer or deputy for at least five years. Preferred experience in teaching/instructing. Previous community college experience is preferred. PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS – An individual who holds this position must have the ability to transmit information, in both verbal and written English, in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. They must have the physical ability to sit, stoop and bend. They will be required to be on their feet for most of the instructional period to best monitor student work and behaviors in open and enclosed work areas. The individual is required to lift 55 pounds from the floor to standard working height and return on a regular basis. During lab work, the individual will be required to wear proper safety clothing, such as latex gloves, dust mask, goggles and lab coat. CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment setting. However, the individual will frequently be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual will be exposed to chemicals, serology, gases and powders as well as materials and equipment that can cause cuts and burns.
