Description:  Organization Overview The mission of the Jamaa Learning Center is to educate and empower students and families by providing high-quality educational and social services that not only maximize academic achievement but also result in the sustainable growth and development of a strong and healthy community. Jamaa Learning Center is a free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory, full-service community charter public school that is committed to the holistic development of historically under-served children and families, ultimately serving 300+ students in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Jamaa opened with grades Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th in August 2011 and will grow to our full K-8th configuration in Fall 2013. Jamaa is founded and operated on the core belief that a key element necessary to holistically develop children with respect to academic achievement as well as positive character, virtue, values, and life skills is a meaningful and longitudinal relationship with an empowered adult. POSITION OVERVIEW Teachers at Jamaa Learning Center must be able to work collaboratively on a team to continue building a solid foundation for the school’s academic program, provide students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that will enable them to fulfill the school’s mission, and create, nurture, and maintain a strong and healthy long-term student-teacher relationship. Qualifications/Preferred Experience • Bachelor Degree in Education, Teaching, or a related field (required) • Missouri Highly-Qualified Teacher (HQT) status (required) • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in an urban setting (highly preferred) If you are an extraordinary educator with demonstrated academic results serving students in an urban area, a strong commitment to innovative instructional practices and an uncommon desire for leading in an entrepreneurial environment, Jamaa Learning Center is looking for you to join our village! Critical Skills/Required Qualities • Demonstrated results achieving significant academic gains with under-served student populations • Demonstrated ability in designing curriculum that is cross-referenced with academic standards • Comprehensive knowledge of data-based decision making processes and demonstrated ability to effectively use school-wide, classroom and student data to drive instructional choices • Demonstrated ability to lead in an entrepreneurial environment • Critical thinker, strong communicator, inspirational and visionary leader, student focused, culturally competent, self-aware, organized and adaptable, constant learner • Strong team-building skills and focus on relationship-building, specifically the importance of the student-teacher relationship critical to the success of multi-year looping • Passion for serving children and transforming urban public education • Demonstrated compassion for and high expectations of ALL students • Belief in the values of Jamaa: Freedom, Achievement, Integrity, Truth, Humility Salary is commensurate with skills, experience, and educational level.
