Description:  Job Description Confluence Academy POSITION TITLE Librarian/Media Specialist- High School & Middle School DEPARTMENT: Learning Resources REPORTS TO: Principal POSITION SUMMARY: Plans and establishes media program, goals and outcomes in accordance with building curriculum and district and state guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. • Supervises the overall operation of the School Building’s Media Center. • Responsible for technical services for educational access cable channel, distance learning and other technological resources related to the delivery of services. • Technology planning and implementation as required by building and district. • Collaborates with teachers in planning curriculum units using the library/media center. • Manages the library collections. • Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes media center materials available to support and enrich the curriculum of the building. • Implements the Library Media Curriculum. • Assists students with the development of independent information access and use so as to develop their skills in the use of instructional materials in relation to learning outcomes. • Keeps abreast of new resources, materials and changes relating to the field recommends implementation on usable and valuable items relative to the building and curriculum. • Supervises the use and storage of AV/Technology equipment. • Evaluates, selects and orders learning resources. • Assists in planning and providing staff development opportunities for Media staff and other building personnel. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Supervises students, parent volunteers and student helpers. Directs paraprofessionals where applicable and Library/Media support staff. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum of 2 years teaching experience. Experience in running/working in a Media Center preferred. Knowledgeable of computer applications and operations. Certification: Valid teaching certificate, K-12 Librarian. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. The employee is required to drive between buildings on an occasional basis.
