Description: | Smithton R-VI School District is taking applications for a K-12 Cross Categorical special education teacher to start immediately during the 2023-2024 school year. The teacher will maintain a culture of high expectations and provide high support to those who need it and enhance teacher/student relationships. Additional expectations include timely and meaningful feedback to students and parents, encouraging lifelong learning. Strong communication skills, being student centered, and having a positive, encouraging team player attitude are important characteristics. QUALIFICATIONS Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate (or prepared to obtain) in Special Education K-12, Cross-Categorical Knowledge of Special Education Process, State and Federal Regulations ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Adapts instructional material as necessary to meet the needs of all students, including aptitudes and interests. • Assesses student accomplishments on a daily basis, including formal and informal assessment. • Regularly communicates to parents the academic program of students. Increasing the frequency of communication to those parents whose children are experiencing low academic success or a significant change in academic performance. • Completes quarterly reports on each student and maintains complete accurate attendance and grade reporting records. • Establishes a positive climate for learning. • Provides equal educational opportunity for each child. SPECIALIZED RESPONSIBILITIES • Be responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing, and updating student IEP’s, as well as conducting testing and/or observations as part of evaluation process. • Be responsible for conducting annual IEP conferences with parent and/or guardian and maintain adequate records of IEP progress. • Assist in supervising and coordinating all paraprofessional activities within the special classrooms and give accurate input to the director for evaluation purposes. **Smithton is a wonderful small rural school 7 miles east of Sedalia full of great students and staff with a truly family atmosphere.
