Description:  The Houston R-1 School District is seeking a full-time school social worker for the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in social work from a state approved four-year college/university. 2.PREFERRED Completion of an approved course of study in school social work accredited by CSWE or a School Social Work Specialist credential issued by National Association of School Social Workers (NASSW) or valid Missouri license issued by State Committee for Social Workers. GENERAL PURPOSE: The school social worker assists students and families coping with the challenges they are facing in their lives. The school social worker shall be responsible for assessing needs, coordinating resources, communicating effectively, and providing direct and indirect services to meet student and family needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: May include, but not limited to the following: Conducts assessments, observations, and interviews for determining appropriate services. Prepares and reviews assessment reports or case histories. May participate in a variety of meetings including IEP meetings, case reviews, multiagency staffing and other related meetings. Assists teams in developing appropriate intervention plans, goals/objectives, and progress monitoring. Collaborates with other educational and community agencies to implement effective service plans for students. Performs other related duties as assigned. ABILITY TO: Maintain confidentiality. Work as part of a multidisciplinary educational support team but also independently as needed. Communicate effectively in oral and written form with staff, parents, district personnel and outside agency partners to ensure the coordination of services and programs to children with identified needs. Maintain clear and accurate records and meet established timelines. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. This position is being made possible due to the DESE release of the IRSG funding and may only be available for the 23-24 school year.
