Description:  Job Title: Parents As Teachers Parent Educator Location: Elementary School with travel around the community Reports to: Director of Special Services Salary Range: $23 to $25 per hour with an estimated 30 hours per week; some nights and weekends meeting the needs of the parent schedules with flexibility to build your schedule. With benefits according to Board policy. Terms of Employment: August through May Education/Certification: High School Diploma with relevant work experience. Preferred teaching certification according to the state of Missouri. Parent Educators are required to attend a DESE approved training to work in the program. Valid Driver’s License & Evidence of Insurability Job Goal: To provide developmentally appropriate information and support of parents in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher. To share developmentally based observations with parents, administer screenings and share results with parents in a professional manner. Make referrals to appropriate interventionists. Develop rapport with community members and organizations to cultivate collaboration for the birth to kindergarten clientele. Parent Instructional Services Involves parents in all aspects of the program; personal visits, group meetings and screenings. Demonstrates good knowledge of child development, child rearing practices and issues and shares age appropriate activities. Presents relevant information on child development, language, motor and social skills and age appropriate activities. Models appropriate verbal interactions, communication techniques and corrections techniques with the child. Assists parents in developing strategies for strengthening their effectiveness. Addresses parents concerns and researches information and community resources as needed. Student Screening Services Monitor progress of child’s cognitive, motor and affective development Provide health and developmental screening for all children on an annual basis, ages 3 months to Kindergarten entry. Provide verbal and written summaries of screening results to parents. Recognizes behavior and/or development of a child that deviates from expected norms. Complete appropriate referrals to the Special Services Director for additional evaluations as needed. Participates in Kindergarten round up and Preschool and Kindergarten screening. Organization and Management Actively recruit new families and children for the program. Prepare and distribute materials on child development to client families. Maintain files to include records of all screenings and transfer to the elementary school office. Maintains program records for submission for state reimbursement. Interpersonal relationships Establishes good rapport and maintains on-going positive relationships with each family in the program. Through active listening, encouragement, guidance and feedback. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with district personnel. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with outside agencies. Recognizes PAT as a team environment and works for the good of the program. Demonstrates a positive attitude and conducts self in a professional manner. Professional Development Will complete training requirements as established by Parents as Teacher National Center Will participate in any professional development as assigned by the Director of Special Services. This may include but not limited to outside reading, webinars and off site training. Community Involvement Plan and implement activities for birth to Kindergarten families within the community.
