Description:  Middle School Principal The West Platte R-II School District, Weston, Missouri, is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic educational leader to serve as Middle School Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership and valid Missouri certification. A minimum of 2 years of successful school administration experience  is preferred. Effective communication skills. Effective team-building and organizational skills. REPORTS TO: Superintendent  TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months, benefits according to Board policies.  JOB GOAL: The school principal is responsible for providing effective instructional leadership and is accountable for the school's operation. Major responsibilities include the educational program, professional and classified staff, student development, facility maintenance and management, fiscal management activities, and developing effective community relations.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  1. Leads in the development, implementation, and communication of educational goals. 2. Provides strong and positive educational leadership in organizing, developing, and administering the instructional program of the assigned school.  3. Utilizes data and test scores to identify areas of strength and weakness and communicates this information to staff for curriculum goal setting.  4. Provides leadership in developing the necessary climate for change and growth within the school.  5. Supervises teaching staff and programs in accordance with building and district philosophy. 6. Assists in selection, assignment, orientation, and evaluation of all personnel for whom she/he has supervisory responsibility.  7. Provides for effective and efficient day-to-day operation of school facilities that are conducive to a positive learning environment.  8. Prepares and manages the building budget.  9. Supervises students.  10. Supervises student activities and events.  11. Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and support personnel attached to the school.  12. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according  to due process rights of students.  13. Demonstrates effective organizational skills and completes duties promptly and accurately. 14. Establishes and maintains effective discipline in the school and promotes a positive school climate.  15. Demonstrates knowledge of finance and budget within the specific area(s) of authority and discharges the responsibility for making expenditures in accordance with the operational philosophy of the Board of Education.  16. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. 17. Coordinates and supervises summer school if applicable.  OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:  1. Facilitates the process of developing building goals that are congruent with the district strategic plan (CSIP).  2. Reviews lesson plans and confers with teachers to link teaching/learning activities with educational goals.  3. Develops and demonstrates effective communications through regular staff meetings, weekly building communications, newsletters, and personal contacts.  4. Develops and follows a plan of self-improvement which promotes both personal and organizational goals.  5. Ensures that transitional programs are in place for incoming students.  6. Develops a comprehensive co-curricular and extra-curricular program that supports the development of students.  7. Cooperates with, assists, and supports other administrators in the analysis and solution of their administrative problems when appropriate.  8. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.  9. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.  10. Adheres to good safety practices.  11. Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.  12. All other duties as required or assigned.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings and supervise bus loading and unloading areas and sit for an hour or more at a time. An individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. The position requires a moderate amount of travel.  CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours.  The District provides 100% Board paid Health Insurance, 50% Board paid dental, 50% Board paid vision, and Board paid life insurance.  Position will remain open until filled.
