Description:  The Macon R-1 School District is seeking a Special Education SOAR Paraprofessional for the 2024/2025 school year. Qualifications: Minimum of 60 college hours, passage of the Praxis exam, completion of 20 hour DESE course with certification. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, talk or hear. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students. Be able to work with students, faculty, and the general public in a diplomatic, friendly manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Implement comprehensive positive behavioral support plans with teacher instruction. Implement effective behavior management strategies. Implement materials and utilize effective strategies to support the individual needs of students. Uses time wisely, is organized, and works well with others. Communicates effectively with the Special Education teacher and classroom teacher. Maintains documentation on the progress of each student. Attends training sessions and meetings as they occur. Performs other duties as assigned. Implements technology as appropriate within the small group setting. Supports students in an inclusion classroom setting. Establishes a positive and supportive relationship with the students, and encourages independent functioning rather than dependency when appropriate. Supports established building, classroom, and behavior management procedures. Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality in the conduct of district business. Assists with the personal care of students as needed (toilet assistance, feeding, lifting). Ride the handicapped bus as needed. Obtain crisis management certification. Continuously increase professional development in behavior and disabilities.
