Description:  REPORTS TO: High School Principal and Athletic Director FAIR LABOR STANDARD ACT: Non-Exempt POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Support Staff QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate Degree in Education Valid Missouri Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Positive interpersonal and communication skills Proven leadership skills JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in sport strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS: Be punctual and have consistent and regular attendance. Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social and physical needs, as well as their education needs. Supports the mission of the Webb City R-7 School District. Supports the value of education. Complies with the privacy rights of students; safeguards confidential and/or sensitive information. Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times. Be warm and nurturing with students. Be customer service oriented and professional. Provide excellent customer service according to the standard of the District. Works to meet goals of the department and District with a spirit of cooperation. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The duties of the Head Wrestling Coach will include, but are not limited to the following: Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary. Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport. Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determines sport strategy based on the teams’ capabilities. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student. Follows state, regional and district regulations governing the athletic program. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct toward players, officials and spectators. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs and other organizations. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies and uniforms. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights and pep assemblies. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory and other related records. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, walk, sit and talk/hear; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasionally push, pull or lift at least 50 lbs; and be able to see, including close, distance and depth perception.
