Description:  Licking R-VIII School District has an opening for an Elementary Alternative Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The teacher is responsible for creating a positive classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an alternative education setting; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Assessing academic and social growth of students through consistent review of classroom data collection and recording systems, maintains grade reports, IEPs, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Maintains and updates individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Actively participating in team meetings when necessary to address specific student and parent concerns. Facilitates academic instruction for students which meets objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards. Develops lesson plans and materials; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to meet the needs of each student. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students. Administers standardized testing in accordance with district testing practices. Instructs students in social emotional learning skills. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors. Supervises and monitors student movement and escorts students as needed to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building. Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Leads paraprofessional in the classroom. Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress, areas of difficulties, and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance.
