Job Title:  Alternative Learning Center Director

Description:  The Aurora R-VIII School is currently taking applications for the position of Director of the Alternative Learning Center (ALC). The ALC allows eligible students to enroll in an alternative learning program that provides a smaller and flexible learning environment. The ALC provides an opportunity for students to graduate through traditional credit acquisition or the Missouri Options program. The program is separate from the traditional junior high and high school buildings but works closely with both building offices, counseling, and administration. The role of the director includes but is not limited to managing and maintaining a daily schedule, student enrollment and transfer from the districts’ traditional buildings, documenting and assigning individual student coursework and completion, and addressing student discipline, staff, and facilities needs. Applicants must demonstrate a student-centered philosophy of education and leadership; exhibit understanding and demonstration of quality instructional practices; have a high capacity for technology and the ability to manage educational technology programs to support the success of at-risk students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position. This position will also be responsible for overseeing all functions of the district’s Alternative Learning Center. This could include, but not be limited to - completing teacher observations/evaluations (under the Network of Educator Effectiveness), serving on various leadership teams and facilitating the Virtual Education Program for the district. Additional Administrative Duties may be assigned. Aurora students attend school Monday-Thursday (4 days a week only). Benefits include a Board-paid health insurance stipend, paid personal/sick leave, and vacation days. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
