Description:  CERTIFIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION All interested candidates MUST apply via our district website at www.mjays.us Instructional Coach: Elementary (K-5) Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and Building Principal(s) General Summary: The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and understanding of instructional practices related to effective implementation of the Missouri Learning Standards and data driven instructional planning. The instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. He/she will work collaboratively as a team with the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, and principals. The instructional coach will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues. The coach is responsible for promoting high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing coaching and feedback to teachers. They are also responsible for leading and supporting adult learning through workshops, presentations, and other adult learning processes. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for education reform and leadership. Essential Functions: Establish trust, rapport, and credibility with the entire school community to promote continuous instructional improvement and student success. Partner with Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, principals, leadership teams, and teachers to implement new and existing curricula, assessments, and best-practices in instruction. Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs including inservices and workshops. Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources. Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students. Support teachers and administrators in using data-driven decision making to improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment on all levels. Support the integration of technology in 21st century learning practices and project-based learning. Attend grade level or subject area meetings for the grades or subjects the coach is assigned to and responsible for as often as possible. Participate in ongoing personal professional development experiences as a means of enhancing the instructional, intervention, and assessment support provided to teachers including regular research on instructional programs and materials. Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice. Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools. Collaborate with Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services to develop, coordinate, and support induction and continued professional learning for new teachers Support vertical alignment and scope/sequence between the various grade levels. Support the ongoing analysis, review, and revision of the effectiveness of curriculum, assessment, and instructional programs. Effectively communicate with the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services, principals, teachers, and other stakeholders through a variety of means. Support implementation of district initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned at the request of Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services or principal. Required Qualifications: Valid Missouri teaching license or certificate in appropriate grade levels Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated classroom implementation of best practices and instructional strategies with an emphasis in the areas of reading, writing, math, and 21st century skills including integration of classroom technology and project-based learning. Demonstrated ability and/or willingness to plan and implement professional learning — including inservices, classes, and collaborative models — for individual teachers, teams, schools, and district-wide. Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis and data-driven instructional planning Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues. Demonstrated ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Willingness to work a flexible schedule, school day, and school year Willingness to successfully implement all relevant parts of the strategic plan Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree and/or specialist degree Strong background and passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics Five or more years of successful teaching experience Ability to work and/or support work across all elementary grade levels Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change Demonstrated flexibility and capacity for dealing with ambiguity Ability to interpret assessment data collected from a variety of sources Ability to use district technology effectively and efficiently for a variety of purposes Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum development and implementation Evaluated By: Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services in collaboration with building principal(s).
