Description:  This opening is for the 2026-27 School year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Instruction & Student Support Provide specially designed instruction aligned with each student's IEP, focusing on functional academics, communication, social-emotional development, adaptive behavior, and life skills. Design and implement instruction that supports students with significant developmental disabilities, utilizing evidence-based practices and differentiated strategies. Support students who may require highly structured routines, visual supports, assistive technology, sensory supports, and behavioral interventions. Implement individualized behavior support plans (BSPs) and collaborate with support staff to promote positive student outcomes. Foster student independence, self-advocacy, and functional skill development appropriate to middle school learners. IEP Development & Compliance Serve as the case manager for assigned students, including writing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs in compliance with IDEA and Missouri DESE requirements. Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction accordingly. Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and eligibility reviews. Ensure accurate documentation of services, progress monitoring, and compliance-related records. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers (speech, OT, PT, etc.), administrators, and general education staff. Provide direction and support to paraprofessionals to ensure consistent implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies. Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress, needs, and successes. Partner with building staff to support inclusion opportunities when appropriate and aligned with student needs. Learning Environment & Safety Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment tailored to students with significant needs. Follow district and state guidelines related to student supervision, crisis response, and behavior intervention. Support students with personal care needs as outlined in IEPs and district procedures. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development related to special education, behavior support, trauma-informed practices, and developmental disabilities. Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all aspects of the role. Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Qualifications Required Valid Missouri Special Education teaching certification (appropriate grade level and area). Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and specially designed instruction. Experience or demonstrated ability to work with students impacted by developmental disabilities. Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Experience teaching in a Life Skills, Essential Skills, or self-contained special education setting. Training or experience with ASD, functional behavior assessment, assistive technology, or adaptive curriculum. Experience supervising paraprofessionals.
