Description:  The Mexico Public School District is accepting applications for the position of a Physical Education & Health Teacher for grades 9-12 at the Mexico Senior High School for the 2023-2024 school year. TITLE: Physical Education Teacher CATEGORY: Instructional QUALIFICATIONS: Shall meet all state certification requirements in subject area Bachelor of Science with major in education Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable, REPORTS TO: Principal DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: General Purpose: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; and to develop strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil's ability. Main Job Task and Responsibilities: Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports to pupils utilizing course of study and curriculum adopted by the Board of Education. Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state guidelines, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. Analyzes, demonstrates and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement. Provides individual or small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupil to the extent feasible. Seeks, acquires and applies new effective techniques and teaching methodologies. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment in the physical education areas. Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities as specified in professional development plan. Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment and instructional aids. Maintains required inventory records. Establishes and maintains high expectations for self and pupils. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Cooperates with the school administration in providing specially performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies and interscholastic athletic events. Works cooperatively with clerical personnel, aides and other support staff to create a positive learning and working environment. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period. Provides input and assistance to administration and other staff members regarding matters related to his/her teaching field to insure a harmonious and productive working environment. Assists the administration whenever possible with concerns directly related to his/her classroom responsibilities or other related concerns. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month Contract with salary, benefits and work dates to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel. Applications will be screened as they are submitted.
