Description:  Nine-month faculty opening for a Secondary Science instructor with an advanced degree in a teaching related field of study. The position will start August 1, 2023. Successful candidate must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. Employment will require a criminal background check at University expense. Greenwood is a laboratory school with Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, with approximately 412 students in grades K-12. Primary responsibility is to teach secondary science (Biology and other science content) in an inquiry based approach-implementing technology as appropriate. In addition, coaching and/or sponsorship of clubs and activities is expected. Greenwood faculty are expected to contribute to the function of a lab school and support the goals and mission of Greenwood and the University. Other responsibilities include working with the public affairs initiative, parents, college students, student teachers, practicum students, faculty, staff, and other duties inherent to working in a K-12 school as assigned. Description of duties: Facilitates student learning (e.g. creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age appropriate activities, etc.) for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans. Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study. Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Maintain high expectations for self and others; set and monitor progress toward goals; and utilize and offer effective feedback to continuously improve. Work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills. Maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities. Teaching assignment will include courses/grades: 4th and 5th grade science; 8th grade general science; high school Biology.
Other Information:  A Master’s degree or higher in a teaching related field of study is required. Significant coursework in the area of Biology is required. Prior teaching experience with secondary students is required.
