| Description: | CLASSIFICATION: Faculty DEPARTMENT: Agriculture REPORTS TO: Dean of Instruction FLSA STATUS: Exempt CONTRACT TERMS: Full-Time, 12-month position, tenure track LOCATION: Trenton, Missouri-Barton Campus Position Summary: The successful candidate will be qualified to teach a full range of college-level freshman and sophomore agricultural courses to include agronomy, soils, precision technology and custom pesticide application. Other potential courses could include, but not limited to, agriculture equipment operation/cdl training and drone technology. Candidate will assist in the operation of the Barton Farm Campus. Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to • Advance student learning through exemplary instruction in accordance with established course syllabus. Continuously improve instructional quality by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery • Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester (12 hours classroom and 3 hours release time for assisting at Barton Farm) at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs. • Commit to the learning process by development of the curriculum and semester schedules. • Coordinate crop, conservation and greenhouse demonstrations, and assist with supervision of the Barton Mentors. • Develop methods to ensure student success; such as collaborative learning, learning communities, service learning, instructional technology and distance education to enhance retention. Provide access to students by posting office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods. • Establish annual objectives to include personal and professional growth plans with the division chair. • Participate in student academic advising and assessment of students learning. • Co – advise agriculture student organization. • Assist in the identification and the recommendation of adjunct faculty. • Develop and maintain alliances with appropriate constituencies and institutions. • Participate in division and college committees, and professional organizations, conferences, and contests to include area, district, state and national activities. • Maintain current knowledge in subject-matter as well as effective teaching and learning strategies. • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics. • Teach evening, weekend, and on-line courses, if applicable. Qualifications: Education: A Master’s degree in an Agricultural related field is preferred. Bachelor’s and teaching experience in this field of study, along with industry experience will be considered. Must have a commitment to teaching excellence. Academic advising, departmental service, and community involvement are important. Compensation based on education and experience. Skills: Demonstrated competence in use of instructional technology with a commitment to change and innovation. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Minimum Salary: Salary depends on experience, graduate hours beyond Master’s, overload or summer pay. Physical and Environmental Demands: Moving about between buildings on the NCMC or Barton campus-30%; working with demonstration plots, farm equipment and animals out of doors in a farm setting-20%; able to do repetitive tasks-20%; teach in a classroom setting for extended periods-30%. Fluctuations while moving on dirt, gravel, soil, concrete and carpeted floors in heated and air conditioned environments, as well as exposed to the outside elements. Barton Campus is a working farm campus that provides students hands-on learning experiences. This individual must be able on occasion to assist in the care of the animals as well as the maintenance of the campus. Must be able to transport 50-100 lbs. | |
