Job Vacancy Description:  Special Education (K-12)
Description:  SUMMARY: To be a paraprofessional for special education department. Perform specified services as in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Will perform any combination of tasks in and out of the classroom while with the student(s). QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree or a minimum of 60 college credit hours. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 7 HOUR POSITION (4 DAYS A WEEK): The duties may include (but are not limited to):  Assist special education teacher/classroom teacher in classroom instruction and care of students, which can include hygiene, toileting, nutrition support and/or other duties.  Maintain student confidentiality and understanding of student’s IEP.  Read tests to students and makes other accommodations from the IEP.  At times participate in Class-Within-A-Class educational opportunities. (Takes notes during class, monitors behavior of students, works with individual students, etc.)  Maintain a good working relationship with other staff members and students.  Demonstrate an understanding of student’s difficulties.  Keeps records, writes/presents by various methods assignments/lessons and corrects student work.  Walk students to and from bus, or other areas of school (as needed).  Ride with student on the bus, to and/or from school or other locations (as needed).  Walk with and/or monitors students that have difficulties between classes or other areas (as needed).  Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.  Assist with set-up of classroom and prepares/organizes materials for instruction.  Participate in meeting and professional development activities.  Collaborate effectively as a team member to support student/classroom learning and activities.  Communicate and work effectively with peers, classroom teachers and administration.  Handle attendance reports and other related clerical functions (as needed). WEST COUNTY R-IV SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: PART-TIME PARAPROFESSIONAL TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION: Length of contract and salary to be determined annually by the Board of education. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondences and procedures-manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies. Up-to-date knowledge of educational technology and the ability to work with a wide range of computer equipment and software. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and depth perception.
