Description:  K-8 PE and Health instructor and Coaching Position TBD JOB DESCRIPTION STURGEON R-V TEACHERS TITLE: Teacher REPORTS TO: Building Level Principal or Superintendent CERTIFICATE REQUIRED Teacher (Applicable subject and/or grade endorsement} TEACHING STAFF MEMBER DEFINED “Teaching staff member" means a member of the professional staff of any district or regional Board of Education, or any Board of Education of a county vocational school, holding office, position or employment of such character that the qualifications, for such office, position or employment, require him to hold a valid and effective standard, provisional or emergency certificate, appropriate to his office, position, or employment, issued by the State Board of Education and include a school nurse. CURRICULUM - Know and be guided by the curriculum guides of the district and the school. - Maintain a plan book of daily and unit instruction based on district curriculum guides, and emergency plans in the event of illness. - Establish and communicate to students well-defined objectives for each unit of work, including related projects and activities. - Be responsible for an instructional program and the utilization of teaching methods which consider the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the students, including tutorial services. - Attend staff meetings and district in-service training programs. - Serve on committees as requested. - Be responsible for discharging whatever instructional and non-instructional school-related activities may be assigned, e.g., playground, lunchroom, study hall, etc. - Supervise and provide work assignments to teacher aides and/or student teachers working under his/her direction, and evaluate their performance when requested to do so. - Confer with other staff members during planning time. Participate in grade level teacher/adviser conferences as scheduled by the Superintendent or their designee. STUDENTS - Evaluate individual student progress on a regular basis and keep requisite records consistent with the area in which he is engaged and as defined by the area manager. - Provide student progress reports to administration on a regular basis. - Take all reasonable measures to assure student health and safety, being alert to unusual mental or physical condition of students and referring these to the principal or guidance counselor. - When learning disabilities are suspected, advise teacher/adviser, request consultation with staff specialists, and provide each such student with a designated program of instruction when this is the recommended remedial measure. - Be responsible for conduct of the students in his/her direct charge, and for assuming authority, as warranted, over other students in such areas as school corridors, cafeteria, assemblies or during away-from-school events. - Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students as required. - When deemed necessary, hold conferences with individual students and parents in conjunction with principal. Operations - Know and observe the policies and regulations of the district. - Keep records of pupil attendance and tardiness and advise principal of excessive absence or tardiness. - Report to the principal and superintendent any injury or illness to a student or self which occurs within school jurisdiction. - Advise administration as promptly as possible prior to absence from school, and during school day do not absent self from classroom leaving students without supervision. - Account for books and supplies and keep requisite records of their quantity and condition. - Observe proper housekeeping procedures and safety practices in keeping with building regulations. - Alert administration promptly whenever an unsafe building condition is observed in class or school. - As required, remain in school after dismissal of students for as long as necessary to complete daily duties, attend meetings, hold parent conferences, etc. - Read school regulations regarding emergency procedures prior to school day. - Report to work daily at times assigned by the administration and remain-on duty through time prescribed by contract. - Collect student fees, fines, moneys from student contributions, etc., as required, keeping requisite records and submitting moneys and records to the principal's office. - Meet with parents periodically, or at other times as required, to provide advice on student needs and progress.
