MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOM TEACHER
REPORTS TO: MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL(S)
Bachelors Degree or higher with DESE Certification in Secondary Education in the subject area being taught. Previous related teaching experience is desired.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To create a learning environment in middle school classes conducive to educational development and personal growth; to establish an effective rapport with students; to mentor and motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary to form a solid foundation from which good citizens are produced; to formulate good relationships with parents and the community.
Teaches the curriculum adopted and approved by the St. James R-1 School Board of Education.
Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the Board of Education.
Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports through the PLC process.
Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
Is available to students and parents for education – related purposes.
Plans and coordinates the work of employees, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
Continues training in technology and 1 to 1 programs through STJ schools training
Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student’s work through the PLC process.
Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Middle School Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment is on an annual basis. The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.
An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
